MIKE LEUM

September 27 2002

59 A true iron man ... longtime volunteer with the Montrose Search and Rescue Team, which has responded to more than 75 calls in the past year to rescue stranded and lost hikers and injured motorists in the Angeles National Forest ... earned his doctor's wrath after he ran in the Baker-to-Vegas with a broken collarbone ... La Crescenta resident ... triathlete ... bone-marrow donor ... he and other team members regularly speak to scouting, church and social groups about how to plan for a safe adventure in the mountains.

Last year's ranking: 49.
