Man escapes fall with minor injuries
ANGELES CREST HIGHWAY — Were it not for his 1954 Lincoln Town Car that took the
brunt of an early-morning crash, a 54-year-old Palmdale man might have lost his
life Friday just north of La Cañada Flintridge, a CHP officer said.
The man was traveling toward the city about 7:45 a.m. Friday morning when he
went off the side of the road and hit a dirt embankment on Angeles Crest
Highway, Officer Vince Bell said. The collision caused him to lose control of
his car, and he went over the edge. He was found about 300 feet below the road
about an hour later by Caltrans workers.
The Montrose Search and Rescue Team and firefighters from the Los Angeles County
Fire Department pulled the man from the car about 11:30 a.m. He escaped with
minor injuries, Bell said. The man was taken by helicopter to Huntington
Memorial Hospital for further evaluation.
