Searchers recover woman's body
January 18 2003
ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST -- Members of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team along
with Los Angeles County Firefighters worked into the early morning hours Friday
to recover the body of a woman who apparently committed suicide.
The Crescenta Valley Sheriffs Station received a call saying the unidentified
woman, estimated to be in her 40s, was missing in one of her family's cars, and
about 1:20 a.m. deputies found the car near a bridge at the 2550 mile marker of
Angeles Crest Highway, deputies said.
Montrose Search and Rescue team members and firefighters worked for almost an
hour to reach the woman on the steep terrain. She was carried out of the canyon
about 2:20 a.m. and taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where she was
pronounced dead around 3 a.m., deputies said.
Deputies said they believe the woman committed suicide, and late Friday had not
released her name. Authorities said they believed she was not from the foothill
areas.
